‘The Darkroom’

Trans+ On Screen have created The Darkroom : a script development lab program specifically for Trans+ and/or Queer Global Majority writers. A gift of a year to develop a feature film genre idea, with the financial & creative support to weep about, culminating in a pitch showcase at BFI Flare!

I am so excited that lab even existed, and I’m double buzzing to have been selected as one of the 10 writers! What a brilliant talented gorgeous cohort to be part of. I have adapted my play Cowbois into the film I wish I’d seen growing up, and am excited to hopefully develop it soon.

Personal: What was hard: Learning so many new things in a short amount of time, whilst juggling over commitments. This pivot from theatre into film was mind boggling at times, but really exciting. What I’m most proud of: All of us, growing hugely as artists, to the point where we were able to confidently pitch our ideas on a big old stage whilst totally being ourselves, passionate and vulnerable. That was a really beautiful thing to be a part of. What I learnt: So much about how to write a screenplay, how to successfully pitch an idea, how to network, how to do a TV general, how the industry works, how to stand in your integrity and know your worth as an artist whilst pitching an idea to industry professionals.
