‘Flies’

Very excited to be making this with Boundless Theatre, Shoreditch Town Hall and the Brit School!

Flies’ is about girls being looked at by boys. It’s about hitting puberty and being smacked by the male gaze. The power and the shame, the pleasure and the fear that flies around your body when you’re constantly being looked at.

Personal: What was hard: getting bad reviews for a show that audiences love, reminding myself of who and why I wrote this for. Not being in rehearsals as much as i wanted because of a busy schedule. What I’m most proud of: The excellent cast and crew really enjoyed making it, and pleasure is political, so it feels disruptive to have fun making theatre. What I learnt: I re-learnt a lot about joy, about having a laugh, about focusing more on process than end product.
